Calm street routes
I am generally in favor of the kind of treatment proposed in the picture below, if done well. This is the main kind of treatment used in Berkeley, California. It makes use of existing lightly-traveled residential streets, so it is inexpensive. It sits well with neighbors, because the traffic calming reduces cut-through traffic on these streets. As I said before, I support some of the things which Dr. Furth proposes.
